Two new construction-related degree courses

In direct response to requests from local employers, the college has launched two new degree courses in partnership with London South Bank University, starting in September.

Students can now study for a BSc (Hons) in either Construction Management or Architectural Technology, on a ‘day release’ basis whilst still being in full-time employment. The courses – which have been validated by the Chartered Institute of Building and the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists – offer an ideal alternative for students who don’t wish to leave the island to attend a UK university, as programme leader Andrew Kilby explained:

‘The courses offer students ‘the best of both worlds’. They continue to earn money and at the same time expand their skills base and take their career development to the next level. Employers have specifically requested us to provide this option for local youngsters pursuing a career in the construction arena and we are delighted to be able to do so.’

The degrees are delivered over a two-year period on a day release basis and students are assessed on a combination of course work and examinations. The minimum entry level is Level 4 HNC in Construction and the Built Environment (merit). The course comprises 12 modules (six per year) covering a wide range of topics and students are also required to undertake a research project.
