The College’s first Tech Day
The College is inviting representatives from the local Guernsey business community, as well as parents and potential students to attend its first Tech Day which will take place on Thursday 16 February.
The event aims to give the College’s Computing and IT students an opportunity to showcase technologies and skills to potential employers and to bring together tutors, students and the business sector to discuss the current provision of technology and learning.
For students, the event will create an ideal opportunity to find out more about employers and the type of careers that are available. Employers will gain valuable insight into the learning currently offered and to make a contribution to discussions regarding future training provision requirements.
Peter McCook, Programme Leader for the department said:
‘IT and computing covers an incredibly wide range of areas and skills and the Tech Day will demonstrate this diversity. We are inviting both local IT services providers as well as representatives from other sectors, all of which require certain IT skills. Bringing together these various groups will facilitate the sharing of knowledge and ideas with regard to employment opportunities and the future of this ever-evolving industry.’
The format of the event will combine an exhibition – including 24 ‘stands’ showcasing work from 67 students from across all College year groups – and discussions and presentations. Guest speaker at the event is David Chamberlain, the States’ Veterinary Officer and inventor of the Pet Porte Microchip Cat Flap.
Solutions Diverse from the UK will be demonstrating a leading 3D holographic display technology from the European company Holocube which is based in Belgium.
