Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET)

About the course

The course prepares learners for teaching in a wide range of contexts and does not require learners to be teaching while studying the programme.

Achieving the qualification will provide sufficient evidence that an individual has acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to teach or train in the further education and skills sector.

This is a classroom based programme. All learners will be provided access to support and resources to complete the programme

Course structure

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training has a number of units which you can undertake. Your course will be made up of the following units:

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training (3 credits)
  • Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training (6 credits)
  • Understanding assessment in education and training (3 credits)

To be awarded the Level 3 Award in Education and Training you need to achieve a total of 12 credits.

Learners will be involved in at least one hour of micro teaching. Each learner must deliver at least one 15 minute micro teaching session which will be observed and assessed by a member of the delivery team. For the additional 45 minutes, candidates can either deliver additional micro teaching sessions or observe the micro teach sessions of other learners.

You are expected to complete this course within 14 weeks.

What can l do on completion?

The qualification can be used in its entirety if you are a tutor or trainer. The course also gives you credits towards the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training.

The Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment

The Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment is for practitioners who assess the demonstration of competence in a work environment using the following assessment methods: observation/examining work products/oral questioning and discussion/use of witnesses/learner statements/Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).This programme is offered to teams who assess in a working environment.

The Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice

The Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice is for practitioners who conduct internal quality assurance of the assessment process from within a Centre/organisation, by sample planning, monitoring and advising on the practice of assessors. This programme is offered to IQA responsible for a team of assessors in their working environment
