Programme Manager on markp@gcfe.net

Foundation learners are post 16 learners working at pre GCSE or GCSE level D-G. There are no specific entry requirements for these courses but you will be required to attend an interview and supply a suitable reference.

Foundation Courses can follow a number of different vocational units, known as pathways, such as Art and Media, Care, Creative IT (see video link below), Hair and Beauty, Sport or Trades. The choice of pathways will depend on the number of learners enrolled and therefore can differ each year.  Each year, we aim to taylor the pathways to suit the needs of our learners.

In addition to your chosen pathway you will be required to attend Functional Skills sessions in English and Maths. Students will work towards a qualification in these subjects at either level 1 or level 2, depending on ability.

The Foundation Learning Programme consists of a combination of vocational units, functional skills sessions, and either a Certificate or an Award in Workskills and Personal, Social Development. You will also be required to attend tutorial sessions and take part in enrichment activities.

Lessons can take place on any of the 3 campuses (Delancey, Les Coutanchez and Les Ozouets) and we use the resources within other departments e.g. the media suite and art studios and the practical workshops. You will be taught by a number of lecturers at the College as well as having a personal course tutor.

This video showcases some of the facilities available to the Creative IT students.

Throughout the year, we aim to develop independent study skills and key skills such as communication skills, life skills, and working with others, problem solving and preparing for work.

All aspects of your course are assessed throughout the year and learners will produce assignments in class which will evidence their learning.

Successful completion of a Level 1 Foundation Course will help you to progress on to a Level 2 course at College or give you the skills you need to get a job.  Progression on to a Level 2 course will only be considered upon completion of all aspects of Level 1 and a tutor reference.
