HND in Art & Design – Open evening
Higher education qualification in Art & Design available on island
Guernsey College of Further Education is again offering a Higher National Diploma in Art & Design starting in September this year.
This two-year qualification offers the ideal start to anyone seeking a career in the creative industry, with much of the course content having been developed by working closely with local employers to identify the key skills needed to succeed in this sector. This is the College’s only full-time higher education qualification and it has already proved extremely popular with students who wish to stay on the island but still gain an essential qualification in the creative field.
The last group of students on this course are currently finalising their final projects before completing the qualification when their attention will move towards seeking employment. One student said: “I didn’t want to go off-island, so this course has meant that I can carry on studying and live at home.” Another added: “There were opportunities to work with real clients and further our learning in a supported environment.”
The College still has availability on the course starting in September this year and is holding an open night on Wednesday 15 May at Delancey Campus at 6.00pm. Faculty Director Jane Le Poidevin said:
“We are delighted to be running the course again. The open evening is an ideal opportunity for students and parents/carers to come and talk to tutors, course lecturers and current students about the course, their own aspirations and to see the facilities first hand. The HND offers a fantastic alternative for young people who would prefer to continue their studies on island without the financial and other pressures that moving away from the island can create. Going away to university isn’t the right path for everyone and so we have developed this course to create another option for students who prefer to stay closer to home.”
Anyone wishing to attend the open evening is asked to register interest by emailing Gillian McCartney gillianm@gcfe.net.
