Students raise funds for the Children’s Library Project
We are extremely proud of our childcare students who have presented a cheque to the Guille Allès library towards its Children’s Library Project. Students from all years of study organised a number of fund raising events including a quiz and cake sales, initially to raise money for their own first aid training. They were left with a balance of £171 from the impressive £1,200 raised overall, which they decided between them to donate to the project.
Around 30 students spent time at the library where they were given a tour of the facilities and attended workshops on the benefits of reading and rhymes for young children.
The cheque was presented to Children’s Librarian Cornelia James.
Cornelia said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by the students to receive this money. We have created a great working partnership with the Guernsey College of Further Education’s Childcare department, having run workshops and other learning sessions with them over the past couple of years. I look forward to continuing to work with the team and wish the students the best of luck in their future studies.”
Kim Abbots, Course Leader and Childcare Lecturer at the college added: “The students worked incredibly hard in their fund-raising efforts, organising all the events with a minimum of input from college staff. I am very pleased that they selected such a worthy cause to receive the residual funds.”
