The college is seeking professionals to share their skills
The Guernsey College of Further Education is looking to attract local professionals with a range of skills to help share their expertise and practical experience as ad-hoc lecturers.
We are running a special recruitment evening on Tuesday 1 March week and and we are encouraging anyone with the time, experience and passion for their subject who might be interested in becoming a part-time ‘supply lecturer’ to come along.
Particular areas of need include Business, Finance, Maths, English, IT, Health and Social Care, Early Years and Construction/Engineering.
‘We don’t necessarily need people with teaching qualifications, although of course they would be welcome’ said College Chief Executive and Principal, Saboohi Famili.
‘This island is full of people with a passion for their subject and very good communication skills. The Recruitment Evening will provide information about how they might pass their knowledge and experience on to students attending the full-time, part-time and Apprenticeship courses that are run from one of the College’s three campuses. No teaching qualification is required, just an interest in people and a desire to support the local College in delivering relevant, high quality education, using first hand practical experience.’
The recruitment evening is being held on Tuesday 1 March from 17.00 – 19.30 at the Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts at Les Ozouets Campus. This informal evening will provide an opportunity to learn more about what it means to teach at the College, when the courses are held, what kind of commitment would be involved and the terms and conditions that would be applicable to this supply lecturer contract.
The College is planning to follow up the recruitment evening with a chance for those interested to get some further experience of what would be required.
‘We will be holding ‘Taster Sessions’ where people can come along and observe a lesson at the College. If they would then like to be considered as a supply lecturer, they will be invited to complete an application and go through a short selection process, including full screening,’ said Saboohi.
‘We believe this is an exciting opportunity for some of our successful business people, entrepreneurs and skilled craftsmen and women to pass on their practical knowledge to a new generation helping to grow the Island’s skills base and provide some relevant real-life experience to our students.’
