College creates retail ‘pop up’ in time for Valentine
The college will be taking over the OSA Pop-Up Shop in Smith Street for two weeks in February.
From 8 – 13 February students from the college will be selling a range of merchandise, which will include items they have designed and made themselves as part of their course work. In addition, members of the public will be able to buy vouchers for the college training restaurant ‘Future Chefs’ and for treatments at the Health & Beauty school – perfect for a Valentine gift or an early Mother’s Day purchase.
At lunchtimes during the week there will be the live demonstrations from the Health & Beauty department as well as some tasty treats on offer from the college’s catering students.
The initiative has been put together with the direct support from the business studies students, giving them valuable hands-on experience of project management and teamwork.
John Snow, enterprise academy manager for the college commented:
‘The project gives us the opportunity to showcase some of the students’ work, and to illustrate the range of courses and disciplines on offer. In addition, the week will serve as a learning opportunity for both our business studies students and also for those who are attending our new retail skills course; they will be spending time in the shop during the week putting some of their learning into practice.
We are extremely grateful to OSA for facilitating this opportunity and we hope that lots of people will come and see what’s on offer.’
The shop will be open 9.00am to 4.00pm, from Monday 8 to Friday 12 February.
From 15 – 20 February, students from the college’s creative courses will be opening a mini art gallery in the Pop-Up Shop.
